Earl Chavez

President of School Board

Mr. Chavez is the General Manager of Com Cast Cable Company in Grants.

His term in office is from February 2009- February 2013 He can be reached at (505)240-1100 and his email is eachavez@gccs.cc. He is over District 3. Earl was re-elected to serve another term on the School Board.

William Estevan

Vice President of Board

Mr. Estevan is a local rancher. Which he enjoys very much. He takes one or two of his grandchildren with him when he gets the chance.

Sharon MacKendrick

Secretary of School Board

Sharon Mac Kendrick is an Emeritus Professor at NMSU - Grants Campus, having taught college mathematics since 1975. Although retired, Sharon still teaches one class a semester. She had enough experience teaching junior high mathematics and English in the 1970s that she has a healthy respect for the work that public school teachers perform.

In 1970 Sharon and her husband Larry moved to Grants, where Larry taught at Franklin Junior High. Their three adult children, John, Janet and Lawrence, are all graduates of Grants High School.

In her free time, Sharon enjoys walking her dog, hiking with friends, and making music. She plays piano and guitar for the First United Methodist Church of Grants, and teaches the youth Sunday School class as well.

Sharon was elected to the Grants-Cibola County School Board as a representative of District 4 in 2007, and is scheduled to serve until her term expires in 2011. She may be reached at smackend@7cities.net or at 505-287-8244.

Jerald Smith 

School Board Member

Jerald Smith is the new member of the Grants/Cibola County School Board. He takes the position that Mark Thompson vacated. Mr. Smith's term in office is from February 2009 - February 2013.

Jerry is the CEO and President of the Laguna Development Corporation. He has a degree in Business Administration from NMSU.  He is currently serving his second term on the state Economic Development Commission.
